Based upon what Coltrane said about the I-tie law changing I'm checking with an Italian attorney to see if I can get it done.

My grandparents were born US and Argentina one of each on both sides so I can't see how I could get this done. Great grandparents came from Italy.

As I understand, if one of my mom’s ‘rents were Itie citizens when she was born here, then she could get citizenship. It would then cascade to me, and from me to my kids. I don’t see a reason (other than proof) why it couldn’t go upstream one more generation. I’ll report once I know more.

None of my ancestors are getting me EU citizenship, as far as I can tell. My closest shot looks like a great-grandfather who came from Germany in the 1880s, but that's not close at all.

If any of the rest of you have German ancestors, you might find this site interesting. We have no idea where my great-grandfather grew up, but this site gives a hint.

I think maybe I could get Mexico through paternal grandmother. I don't know if she even bothered to get her US citizenship. My grandfather was an honorary consul to Spain for some reason, though his actual connection was from an ancestor who got to Texas in the 1750s.

On mom's side, Italian through her mother, but that was her great-grandfather who came over. Her grandmother was DAR, so that's not helpful. Polish/Russian (unclear where border was at the time) through her father who WAS first generation American, but there aren't many/any records. He was the type that pretty much renounced his ethnicity and never referred to himself as other than American, despite the very Polish last name.

I found a law firm that will get me it for $10k. So if my mom was an Italian citizen I’d just gave to go to the consulate. But I will need to file in an Italian court. The law still focuses on grandfather- but this firm has convinced courts this is sexist discrimination.

Icky it does not seem to matter you will have to jump another generation than me. When I speak to the firm I’ll ask. Once you get it your wife merely needs to go to the consulate. Adult kids need to go through court but the firm gives a discount for multi client matters like that.

Any of you all come to Calabria look me up!

If you play a state or county fair within a day's drive, I'm THERE.

Isn’t the difficult part locating/gathering the necessary documents? I’d have to go to Pennsylvania to find out if/when my great grandfather was naturalized, and also obtain all birth certificates for the entire line.

I think they have contacts or it’s on Ancestry?

It took 2+ years, but the NYT finally summed it up - masks work, but mandates do not. So, again, fuck Adder and his ilk. https://messaging-custom-newsletters...fb92ee7a7cb802

To be fair, Adder proposes a China-level enforcement of the mandates. The article says mandates don't work because people do not really comply. In China if you don't comply you'll be jailed. For that matter, in his true dream the mandate would be "you do not come out of your apartment." That mandate would "work."

Oddly, that does not look like the kind of fully vetted analysis and argument places like the CDC ought to rely on, and instead reads like "I've managed to find a couple docs speaking in an individual capacity who will confirm the theme of my article". It's particularly notable given that it's real easy to find people who disagree on the issue but none of them are quoted or cited.

Mask mandates have become a political hot potato, so we probably aren't going to see more except in a few isolated places. But can we not rely on this kind of facile op-ed for our medical decisions? Long term, we need a public health system that relies on rigorous analysis and substantive support for positions. Otherwise, we're going to really screw up the next time around, like we did this time.
