Mac minis are $599. Refurbs can be had for even less.

Uhhh, spending $599 isn't the problem. Convincing the wife that Windows sux is.

I should remind her that the prospects of her husband continuing to earn good coin dimish with each hour spent playing home-windows-help-desk person.

Win-win: She can be the home-windows-help-desk person. Things will work themselves out after that.

You'd think that one day of trying to restore a PC that wouldn't even boot into safe mode would've cured her of that.

I don't get it. You tell her you no longer have the mental fortitude to keep trying to fix her computer. She can fix it, but you're willing to buy her a new Mac. Her choice. (Kind of the reverse of hte corporate world--you can use your mac, but it's not supported.)

What's to worry about? Your mac won't get infected by her PC.

Leaving so Zune?

Microsoft executive overseeing Zune will depart

A key executive in charge of Microsoft Corp.'s new Zune device is leaving, the company said Wednesday.

Bryan Lee, corporate vice president of Microsoft's entertainment unit, will leave in the next several weeks "to pursue personal interests," a Microsoft spokeswoman said in an e-mail. Lee oversaw the Zune's release in November, and was charged with developing partnerships with media companies to provide video and music to play on the portable device.
Microsoft has high hopes for the Zune, which is designed to compete directly with Apple Inc.'s more
popular iPod. Though Microsoft has not disclosed any sales numbers for the Zune, the company has said that it intends to sell more than 1 million of the devices by the end of its fiscal year in June.
Because the Zune is a new product with relatively few users, it may have been difficult for Lee to convince media firms of the need to make their content readily available for it, according to Rob Helm, an analyst with research firm Directions on Microsoft.
"Whether he fell or was pushed I couldn't say," he said.

Ok, you've sold me. I just hope it's really true that my Canon all-in-one won't be obsolete and that I can get a Mac driver for it.

If it's obsolete, it's obsolete, regardless of your computer.

Here are the printers Mac OS X supports

Who controls the purse strings in pony's house? My first wife didn't even have check signing privileges on the joint account.

Not a $ thing -- a headache thing.

So far the thing has been stable but I made clear that the next time something happens, that's it: the help desk is closed. And I am not getting any software for it either. She can use Wordpad and Paint and that's it. All of the software was supposed to have been backed up but the backup program screwed up.

I forgot all of the fun of rebooting, doing Windows update, virus scan, antispyware software, driver updating, etc.

Mistake number one. He may want to get a second job, secretly, and stash that loot.
