no thanks necessary. you earned it. The only thanks i need is a small nod of appreciation to the fact that your growth to being Gallant (and bravo to you) was at least partially fertilized by my earlier identification of your behavior as Guffus.

is there a trick to scrolling from 20 pages ago? So you post and now you're back on the newest page, how do you quickly get back to where you were? Is there some "go back to" link?

Here is a not so fun question for the Board:

What should a person do if she guaranteed a student loan for her now-ex-husband (less than a year before the divorce, no less) and she finds out today that he has turned deadbeat and is not paying it? The loan is in loss recovery and the person at the bank that I spoke with said that my options are:

1. pay the entire amount now due and they will take it completely off of my credit history (but not the deadbeat's) and then proceed against him

2. settle with them for some lesser amount and it will remain on my credit as a settled debt, and then go after him

3. try to find him and get him to pay up

I spoke with deadbeat's mom, who says he is "between jobs" and gave me his cell number. He (surprise!) didn't answer his cell. I don't think that even if they were inclined to help me (which they might be if convinced by me), his parents could afford to pay it off. I can afford to pay it off if I need to. And it seems to me that I have to do option 1. Anyone care to convince me otherwise? I'll certainly miss that $21k from my savings.

People suck.
Definitely not #1 -- that's the worst case scenario. I'd go with #2 I guess, with the thought at settling for somewhere between $3k-$5k.

Speaking of which, I have an e/o sighting to report. Much like a bigfoot sighting, there was only one flaky witness with questionable credibility.

In any event, e/o gives her best regards to all you wacky FBers, and hopes to visit again sometime in 2007.

Because you all care. Deadbeat was appalled to learn that bank is hitting me with this. Deadbeat has promised to handle. I'm sure this situation will continue to evolve.

Back to you in the newsroom, Mick and Buffy.

(Deadbeat also apparently remarried 2 months ago. No word on whether I can substitute her name on the student loan guarantee.)

If they'd go for that sort of haircut, they have a bad guarantee/confession, which you'll find out when you talk to your litigator friend. In which case, you should settle for $1k nuisance value.

Do you have the same first name? Maybe you can argue she is the Guarantor? Successor by operation of law? Maybe you should change your name, quickly.

Hey if you like music and live in the SF area (you do right, you are Spanky's cat, no?) you should call Paigow. I hear she has an extra ticket, VIP, to the Counting Crowes at the Fillmoure. She offered it to Less, but she overestimated his ability to let bygones be bygones or he underestimated her sincerity. I normally wouldn't get involved in these old skool feuds but I know Less can't see my posts anyway.

Unless she reconciled with Slave and he is going. I think he likes the Crowes.

Eh, whatever.

Unless Spittles is a Sebby cat and not a feline cat, I don't think she can get in to the show.

I was just trying to be friendly to a fellow music fan. Remember, I have been in hippie heaven for the past few days. Its all about the music, man.

BUt it isnt a hard ticket or anything, so I am sure he will have no probelm getting in, if he wants.

I've done a bit of thinking, and I'm concerned that I might have come down a little hard on my ex. I mean, he didn't want me to find out that he was in default on his debts and I'm sure the shock of hearing that bank was contacting me was quite a lot to bear. In light of my better understanding of his situation, please retroactively replace "deadbeat" in my earlier posts with "payment-challenged". I'm sure both Mr. Payment-Challenged and I will rest easier tonight if you would be so kind as to make this mental correction.

Namaste.

So you still have feelings for him? Have you told him? Does Mr. Man know?

My advice, and this comes mainly from watching a lot of Dr. Phil, is get over him. Move on with your life. He obviously has.

Have you talked to a therapist?

Top of the Heap!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4137506.stm

So dna testing shows 4-10% of the kids being raised as some man's kids really aren't. I did a rough survey of the kids for the 25 more frequently posting males (excluding nfh) and, if everyone is telling the truth, 11 of them were raising the kids of some other poster. So once again we spike well above the average.

mazel tov! Atticus, my "son" turned 13

  • One in 25 fathers 'not the daddy'

Up to one in 25 dads could unknowingly be raising another man's child, UK health researchers estimate.
Increasing use of genetic testing for medical and legal reasons means more couples are discovering the biological proof of who fathered the child.

The Liverpool John Moores University team reached its estimate based on research findings published between 1950 and 2004.
