And my bestest friends use it to call me, usually every day, sometimes 3 and 4 times a day. So I don't get your point.
Yes, I can't go out to dinner with them more than once or twice a year but that doesn't make them not my bestest friends.

I don't think that is unusual. Although I have lots of friends, I have no regular contact with any of my childhood or college friends and have limited contact with my law school classmates. I don't socialize with my present co-workers, although I keep up with some of the people from my old lawfirm. NONE of my close friends are lawyers -- they are people that I have met socially over the years. I've even dated a couple of them.

I have some very good friends, I have some medium level friends, and I have some friends I just like to hang out with from time to time. None of them would qualify as a bestest friend. That position is reserved for whomever I am having sex with at any given time.

I actually have to say that I've found more women concerned with a man being smarter (in some way or another) than them than men. I think women, more often than men, feel they to some extent take on the status of their mate, and women more frequently consider "smart" to be a status-enhancing feature in a mate (while men might more usually think "great tits" to reflect well on their mate-attracting abilities and thus status).

Caveat: there is a common breed of alpha-male (for example, that "asshole in law school" guy) who feels he has to be the smartest person in the room. Some alpha guys will see a "smart/superior" woman as an excellent status enhancing trophy, but many that I've known definitely feel their alpha status threatened by the presence of people with superior qualities - be they male or female.

Perhaps you are mostly noting the selection habits of alpha males, which would make sense given whom you are likely to come into more contact with in our [sarcasm = dripping] rarefied upper middle class "professional" circles [/sarcasm].

Second caveat: blah blah, we are all on this board obviously far too enlightened to be subject to any of this, blah, blah.

BR(I, too, married someone far more IQ/intellecutally intelligent than me, but I probably have more "real world" smarts through simple experience outside of the ivory tower. Then again, he isn't the one who thinks it's rational to blow $350 on a pair of shoes, so I may not be the street-smart one, either.)C

Its different. Hazing is pure silliness. Catholicism as practiced by the parochial idiots who run those schools is geared toward warping the mind and fostering blind obedience.

Trust me, I've dealt with brainwashed Catholics in my day. There is no breed stupider walking planet Earth, except maybe those fire and brimstone Southern Baptists. In a perfect world, vehement Catholics and the Southern Baptists fight to the death on Greenland with portable nuclear weapons.
