Link to three angles of Penelope.

Giada is totally out of Nigella's league, though.
I'm with you on the Penelope thing, but this is a controversal stance as you know. Nice job flitting by to start a TM flame war.

Nonetheless, the use of the term "boyfriend" by women my age is absolutely ridiculous.

"Lover" is a much better term.

Not if he's 19.

Sure, it is ridiculous for Woman your age to say it. Thankfully gwnc and I are still in the age-appropriate range for the term.

ZING!!!

I disagree. Meeting on the internet is irrelevant.

When you have an internet boyfriend, he is your boyfriend only on the internet. Kind of like how Hank is 6'11" on the internet.

Once your internet boyfriend and you meet in real life and become actual boyfriend and girlfriend, he becomes your real life boyfriend. Now, he may still be your internet boyfriend, if there's a community of people who still think of you that way.

So, by way of example, balt is RT's real-life boyfriend. He is not, nor was he ever, her internet boyfriend, because none of us knew he was her boyfriend until he really was.

On the other hand, let's assume for a moment that dtb and Shifter have never really met. But they are boyfriend and girlfriend on the internet only. He is her internet boyfriend. Should they ever take their relationship into the real world, he could, ostensibly, become her real boyfriend.
Wow. You have given this a lot of thought. Do you think you could put together a handbook for the uninitiated?

You should leave this part out, though. "Boyfriend" is timeless.

Ok, fine, but what if you want to distinguish one guy from all the guys you fuck? "#1 guy I fuck" doesn't have a very good ring to it, plus it's ambiguous.

I do what I can. I've been busy with my real-life girlfriend that I met on the internet, so I've apparently got an opening for an internet girlfriend.

Exactly, and "lover" is a stepping stone to that. In polite conversation, like with clients, you use lover, as in "oh, I can't turn around your document tonight, I have a previous engagement with my lover". Once you have weirded them out with that a few times, jumping up to "chick I fuck" actually is a relief for them to hear.

Glad you liked it. I've been meaning to buy other Perotta books, but haven't gotten around to it. Perhaps an amazon.com project for later today?
