*Rattle & Hum is almost as good as This is Spinal Tap. But they needed Christopher Guest. They should've fired larry Mullen and replaced him with Guest.

I can see Guest doing a great interview bit now:

"You see, the record has a flow. Its quite ingenius. First you're in a place where the streets have no name, which causes you to be unable to find what you're looking for."

Not to be a spoiler or a worry-wart, but that's how Nate felt on 6 Feet just before he died.

Latest speculation is Saints home opener will be moved to Giants Stadium and switched to the Monday night game. Thereafter their temporary home to be the Alamodome?

I don't think bnb's suggestion that they join the military was all that stupid. Guard units nationwide are having difficulty meeting recruiting targets, so they're looking for people. And the guard units patrolling NO obviously have food, water, and a place to sleep. If I was stranded there, I'd volunteer, pronto.

[Spoilers follow sort of for people who haven't watched Wednesday night's show.]

So I'll give you my final 3. I think Mig, Suzie and Marty. If JD makes it any past next week, it will only be because the Executive Producers like to have him there to stir up shit in the house. He sucks ass. It is clear to me that Mig wins this thing. Saying who leaves when before that moment is a bit tougher, because it depends to some degree on how people vote. My guess is that Mig and Suzie (who has realy stepped up her game, despite the fact I don't think she's their future lead singer) are my bet for the final 2.

Poor Jordis is setting herself up to leave. Despite having the best voice of the bunch. Think she's just tired from the strain of living in the house or something?

Jordis pretty much gave up when she couldn't sing Dream On. She's just phoning it in now. Suzie - I hate her, and I'm sure the general public hates her. She is not top 3. Jordis goes next week. I'm telling you, the voting public likes JD. A lot.

I agree that the teen contingent likes him. And I think the producers like having him around to cause trouble. But there is no way he wins this. Next time he is in the bottom three, I think he goes home. Why would INXS choose to try to work with a troublemaker and a guy who shows up unprepared for recording sessions? Not gonna happen. If there weren't another obvious choice this week, I think he would have been out.

I don't like Suzie, but she has won some sort of underdog popularity contest, and INXS likes her voice for their music, which I think is not wrong. The Queen Of The Bottom 3 thing is flatout annoying. But she has won the encore two weeks in a row. And she's no longer bottom 3 in voting, so she seems to have worked it with the public.

I'm willing to bet that there will be a woman in the final 3. I would guess that was a pre-season requirement. Mark Burnett cares about his reputation in this area.

It's not like, if the situation were right, mob violence couldn't happen in other places.

I'm certainly a big proponent of the whole personal responsibility thing. It's one of the few things I like about today's GOP: personal responsibility above all else (well, except for corporate welfare, but who's counting?). Certainly, the poor in America get a lot more done for them than in many other (mostly third world) countries, and often, they are to blame for their predicaments. There are ways out of/around lots of things: losing one's job, getting sick, having terrible medical bills, having a spouse die, etc. That doesn't mean that everyone is going to be able to find a reasonable way out.

However, I think about how I got to where I am, and I don't think that I would have gotten here had I been raised by parents without jobs, or with drug problems, or without much education. Frankly, I think that it's a pretty sad statement about our society that the best way out for a lot of people is to join the military.
Two comments: 1) you might not be where you are but your kids could be - sometimes it takes a few generations; and 2) the military can be an excellent way to give people otherwise raised without parental figures who make them believe in moving up to get education, experience achievment and develop a work ethic. And the children of people who learn that and who are then taught that have every chance in the world.

Yup, these are some ethics to have in the context of a relief effort:

Lt. Gen. Steven Blum of the National Guard said 7,000 National Guardsmen arriving in Louisiana on Friday would be dedicated to restoring order in New Orleans. He said half of them had just returned from assignments overseas and are "highly proficient in the use of lethal force." He pledged to "put down" the violence "in a quick and efficient manner."

Mismanage the fuck out of a relief effort, then when people overreact, shoot 'em first and ask questions later.

Actually, being skilled or proficient in the use of lethal force includes being able to use it non-lethally but effectively.

It's fine to say that this could have or should have been managed differently (me, I am afraid this is a big fat advertisement to, oh, people who might like to wreak havoc in an American city or two, that that would be an extremely easy and effective thing to do, since we don't seem prepared to handle a massive anything), but the point now is to restore order and help get those people out.

Some of the looting is fine and reasonable, imo (food, clothing, etc.), some is stupid and should be stopped for the principle of it (though who's ever going to use those tvs, as a practical matter?), but the bigger concern is people adopting some sort of Mad Max fantasy life and thinking they own the place.

True, INXS would never pick a person who is impossible to work with. However, the teenybopper contingent does not care that his work ethic sucks. I just (I can't believe it took so long) put INXS on my Ipod. And Mig is the best choice to take Hutchins place. The music is a little romantic and dancy and the same time. Which is why Marty sucks as a choice, even though I love Marty. JD's voice is a little too...something - I can't put my finger on it, but it's not his style of music. He's more of a true rocker type. I'm telling you - the public hates Suzie. There's a reason she was queen of the bottom 3. She got lucky with the whole Bohemian Rhapsody choice. If JD had gotten that song, he would have gotten the encore. The House Band kicks ass. The teeny bopper contingent does not know Suspicious Minds.

Still, Jordis next week, Suzie the week after.
