Did bond love vesper as much in the novel as in the movie?

I am happy to say that (i) those stupid SPAM notification emails one gets only had 3 items on it today and AoN, (ii) sticking things up one's ass will hereafter forever be known as the Coltrane Manliness Test.

You kids should really read your Ian Fleming. They are good books.

I read them about 25-30 years ago, hence my early-onset Alzheimers thinking that OHMSS was the first one and Casino Royale came later, but to make a long story short, the answer is yes. He was mesmerized by Vesper and fell hard. His relationship with her forms the basis for his relationship with women going forward. He didn't love again until Tracy and then after that, did not love again.

Amirite? I just got an invite (from the partner in charge of the group) for a goodbye lunch for an associate I like a lot. I imagine the lunch is just going to be a big downer. I kind of feel obliged to go, but also very weird about it.

Is it better that partners just pretend the laid-off associate doesn't exist?

There are two kinds of goodbyes for folks laid-off: the one that happens out of earshort of (most of) the partners where the cursing and swearing goes on and the one the partners participate in, where they promise to do everything they can for the associate and remind the poor bloke that it's partly/entirely the partners'/economy's fault for the layoff and they feel bad (during which said bloke tries to read which of them mean a word they say so he can figure out where to get his reference). You can't have a layoff without both types of goodbyes.

I was livid at my old firm when they did layoffs and the associates laid off were made to feel wholly unwanted the minute they walked out of the room. No one in management offered to make a few calls or do what they could for them. The partners just stuck their head in a hole.

I have one, my husband has one, and my brother has one, and they have stood up to baby drool, spit up, and regular old water, but nothing more manly than that. They've been knocked around (but not up) quite a bit and still look really good.

P.S. Coltrane, is your wife expecting a boy?

I'm sure those people would like the opportunity to have a bit more dignified farewell. Although having the partners that made the decision there would be weird.

In a non-economic firing here last week, three partners took the attorney to get "coffee" so that he would be out of the office when they told him he could never step foot in the building again, and they would have his personal stuff sent to him. One too many disassociative moments that scared not only our staff, but staff in other offices in the building.

I have, which is why I was so nonplussed. Neither one made much of a favorable impression.

The whole plot seemed sort of absurd -- needing to play a card game to save the world? Uh... ok.

But the scene with him in his car was awesome. I heart Daniel Craig.

Really? This is your criticism? Out of all the things in Bond movies to care about, how could something like this bother you? His cars have missiles, oil, smoke, machine guns, hub cap slicing machines, defibrillators and ejector seats, as well as every other contraption that may be handy in any given instance, but you're stuck on the part about the bad guy who has to make a bunch of money playing a high-stakes poker game because Bond fucked up his last money-making scheme, which involved infiltrating airport security to blow up the newest, biggest plane in the world? It's Bond, baby.

Does this include sex toys and other person's body parts? Also, is there a scale for this test or is it pass/fail (npi)?

It's 100 kinds of awesome.

AoSpongebob, one of my favorites is Spongebob dancing with the jellyfish when they come to his house to party. God, that's good stuff.

I ripped my pants the other day and thought of Spongebob ripping his pants, and it made it all better.

2.

was a plot to cleave off silicon valley into the pacific while taking a long position on silicon wafers more realistic than a card game?
