So, I take issue with your characterization that "ordinarily[,] adverb-adjective combinations are not linked by a hyphen..." because it is plainly not the case. In fact, it's renegades like you that are ruining this country. RUINING!!
The only time when such a combination does not require a hyphen (other than the adverb-ending-in-"ly" situation) is when the combination follows the word it modifies. (Hence my "correctamundo" comment to RP.)
