There's a difference between apologizing for *sounding* like you thought that race = class (which would have been appropriate if your message did not accurately represent what you were thinking, i.e., you drafted it poorly), and apologizing that you unintentionally equated race with class (which seems to have been what actually happened).
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but seriously - if you consciously recognize that you have some unconscious (subconscious?) racist thought patterns (and honestly, it's hard not to have developed some in American culture), it can help you be more alert to those thought patterns in the future.

Because I am helpful to newbers (and even, in the event this is the case, to people pretending to be newbers), I want you to know that when using the hopelessly outdated fake-HTML-codes-schtick for humorous effect, you need to start with the opening code. Then, when you finish with the end code, the slash already means that the code is ending, so it is redundant to also put in the word "end." See the following example:
