Yeah, my sense is a lot of these are scams. The FOP is a legitimate organization, but that doesn't mean teh fundraiser is actually connected to them. THe times someone from the "FOP" has called, they've been unwilling to provide anything by mail to confirm who in fact they are.

FWIW, shouldn't solicitations by law enforcement orgs. be illegal? I'm sure the police unions wouldn't allow it, but we have rules against officials receiving gifts and it seems particularly important that the police not be perceived as hitting people up for money.
