We can dance if we want to
I had the pleasure of going to a dance hall in central Texas this weekend. The band was rocking, the beer was flowing, and pretty much everyone in the place hit the dance floor. The place was an 18 and up establishment, and I think that pretty much every age group capable of dancing from 18 and up was there. The septuagenarians on the dance floor were deceptively spry and looked like they could dance in their sleep if they wanted to. Some of the couples that couldn't find sitters brought their small kids along, and danced with the kids in their arms. (No rants about inappropriate places to bring kids, from what I could tell, it was totally appropriate in this setting to bring toddlers and infants.)
My two-stepping skills leave a lot to be desired, but when my friend dragged me out onto the floor, I didn't completely embarrass myself, though I didn't try anything fancy. Step step stepstepstep was pretty much all I could concentrate on.
My dad showed me how to waltz and box step and salsa when I was a kid. We took some dance lessons in PE classes in Junior High, and the rest has sort of been picked up at various points along the way. I'm probably most comfortable dancing to latin music, though I was pleasantly surprised to find country and western not totally a loss to me.
POLL QUESTION: Do you dance? If so where and how did you learn? If not, why not and would you if you learned how?
