America's Most Literate Cities

UW-Whitewater* has compiled the American cities with the highest propensity for reading.

Link.

I question the methodology. Newspaper circulation? Are we in S.F. to be condemned merely because our metro daily buh-LOWS? Magazine publishers? Do publishers select a locale for their offices based on the immediate proximity to readership, and does reading magazines really constitute literacy?

*This has strengthened my resolve that if I'm ever a residential RE developer, I won't name the streets in my subdivisions after trees or explorers or English kings --- I'll name them after presidential scandals. Who wouldn't want to live on Teapot Dome Way? Whiskey Ring Drive?
