They should do so, and that's all well and good. It's just interesting to note that these "most popular" GOP figures are ones who tend to disagree with the party platform on some of the more controversial social issues (e.g. I think all except McCain are pro-choice). The party is in line on this "big tent" issue now, though, and everyone is keeping quiet on differences (as are the Dems).

If you recall, Powell was booed by the delegates at the 2000 GOP convention when he spoke about the big tent and mentioned his position on abortion rights.
