Remind me to tell you of the time we were reciting from Pliny's 25th letter --- the one about the eruption of Vesuuium. Of course, we came upon "
cuius similitudinem et formam non alia magis arbor quam pinus expresserit." Booter, who was reciting at the time, graduated Deerfield and therefore had never obtained mastery of the Ecclesiastical pronunciation. Needless to say, when he gave us "pinus" in the classical pronunciation, we howled! O, the halls of Pennypacker redounded with our merriment!
After we had regained ourselves, we retired to Hank's room to repast upon tea cakes and to do gay sex. Ah, bright college days!
