The ray of sunshine is that not all nominations of special education students are meant as jokes. There was a Downs kid in my nephew's class and they chose him to play a marimba duet with the band teacher at the Baccalaureate program and gave him a standing ovation that had more to do with their feelings than the quality of his performance. My niece also had a Down kid in her class; he was very popular and I think he was elected Homecoming King.
