It has been a dark week in many respects - the closing of First Ave is certainly one of them. A Minneapolis institution closed by squabbling among the owners. Hopefully to be re-opened under new management (and a new name??) in January. But, that land is expensive these days, and some argue that a rock club is not the highest and best use of the land. I blame the Evangelical Christians.
The silver lining is that some shows scheduled for First Ave were rescheduled at more intimate venues - so I got the rare opportunity to rock out in plaid, or rather striped, pants last night seeing the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion at the much smaller 400 Bar, another of Mr. Westerberg's old haunts. Thank you ladies and gentlemen! The Blues is number one!
