The donation was, I think, an actual show of human shame on the part of the partner involved. I have no clue if the firm funded it or if he did it personally. For all I know he may have billed the client for it.
C'mon, I can't be the only person who has made the firm eat my costs for buggering my schedule.

I'm scared to admit this, because it seems like just asking for something bad to happen, but I've never had to cancel/change a scheduled trip because of work. I'm really not that crucial to anything apparently.
