Calls by some liberal weenies to low-key the inauguration in a time of war (a la FDR's) have been studiously ignored by this Administration, with the usual theme of response that the inauguration is fully funded by private dollars.
Well, sure. Except for DC's expenses, which
is being told to pay the $12M in costs it will incur for the inauguration by raiding the kitty earmarked for Homeland Security projects.
- D.C. officials said yesterday that the Bush administration is refusing to reimburse the District for most of the costs associated with next week's inauguration, breaking with precedent and forcing the city to divert $11.9 million from homeland security projects.
Congratulations, Washingtonians! You'll be at a higher risk of terrorist attack because of the funds you'll need to spend on the inauguration festivities. On the plus side, the parties will be nice.
