Can I just say that I am somewhat conflicted about how to deal with the loss of John Basedow, Fitness Celebrity, in the tsunami? I mean, given that the guy was just minding his own business on vacation when he died (probably horribly) in a huge natural disaster causing the suffering of untold millions, I somehow feel I should mourn him as a person or something, or at least have the decency not to find it funny.
But it is. It is funny.
The Mr. is usually the first person to tell me I am being callous (usually something along the lines of "you callous, market-worshipping, laissez-faire, stone-hearted libertarian, some day the invisible hand will slap you around and see how you like it," which for all its imagination just doesn't have the zing of my routine comeback "bleeding-heart pinko"), but when I told him of the probable fate of the Fitness Celebrity, he just said "Really? That's pretty fucking funny."
