I'll resist the urge to quote from Monty Python's "Life of Brian."

The theory is that Jesus had half brothers -- that St. Joseph and Mary had a few regular kids. This theory is based upon some passages in the New Testament mentioning, well, Jesus having brothers.

The Church (I am a lapsed Catholic, so I am only speaking for the Pope here, but I am pretty sure that all of the folks who left after Luther nailed the paper to the door agree with him on this one) takes the position that Jesus was an only child, and that the whole "brother" thing is simply a difference in word usage.

Catholic doctrine goes even further than most other Christians on this issue, of course, by the whole Mary being a Virgin her whole life and her being conceived without the stain of Original Sin thingy (a/k/a the Doctrine of Immaculate Conception).

Hmmm. Looks like that "impress chicks easily -- be like Atticus Grinch!" video I bought from the back of the Marvel Comic book has more than paid for itself!
