Both. I sometimes need charts to figure out who has hooked up with whom.
There seems to be a difference between fucking around and relationships. Fucking around with someone that someone else has fucked around with is perfectly OK and happens all the time. Getting into a relationship with a friend's ex- is a whole different issue.
