Eating disorders get a lot of press because they create excellent ammunition for people who think the media portayals of beauty are warping young women. Its a very popular thing to self-righteously say "Hollywood is giving children unhealthy and unreasonable ideals of beauty." Its the sort of thing the NYTimes magazine would let Susan Sontag spew about for 15 pages. Psychiatrists sell loads of books about it. Its a suburban upper middle class malady, so it gets tons of press (also perfect fodder for Lifetime network movies). It provides a rallying point for a lot of people with gripes against Hollywood.
So she lost too much weight. She's a knucklehead. Next.
