I sort of like Ed Harris, but have to get past two things whenever he is cast in something: the first, when in the Abyss, he slaps Mary Elizabeth Stuart Masterson Kate Ashley Mmmmmastrantonio in the face amd screams "Don't die on me, you bitch!" - and it works -- and the second is the cheesy proposal to the cheesy Julia Roberts in the cheesy movie where the annoying but generally not cheesy Susan Sarandon dies.
I also read an EW review of Empire Falls, which review noted that Ed Harris is too virile to play a man who never gave his wife an orgasm. I'd suggest another actor, but I can never think of anyone when I try to re-cast movies.
ETA when reading the book, I always pictured David Strathairn as the brother (is the brother's name David)?
