I had a boss who would tell racist and homophobic jokes at client lunches. What do you do in situations like that?

I used to work some with a more senior associate who would make such jokes. After the third or fourth time, starting to feel complicit, I told her that I thought the joke was tasteless and offensive. She stammered a little bit, told me that she was from New York City, where people have lower standards I guess, and from then on avoided me as much as possible. Which was pretty much an excellent outcome.
