I have a short last name- wooden sound. I wanted to name my son Vincent, great name for the right smart/hip/sort of arty kid.
BUT realized that "Vinnie" would make the Sebbys of the world discount him as a guido, and Vince sounds too football coach.
He ended up Jacob.
