Maybe the anti-depressant crowd (more likely the should-be-on antidepressant crowd), but otherwise, I'd never connect Coldplay with anything remotely drug related. Which is not a good thing for a rawk band. I just find them entirely uninteresting.
The only common ground with the Smiths is the whining. Not a Morrisey fan, but the Smiths at least had their interesting moments. Don't see it with Coldplay. I've seen 'em described as Radiohead without the creative ambition; even that seems a bit unfair to Radiohead.
