And the yard is irrelevant to that issue. It's not a like a dog will exercise herself in the yard. Although my lab has hilarious episodes of random aimless dashes from corner to corner, they are not regular enough to constitute sufficient daily exercise.

The real benefit to having a yard is to the owners, not the dogs. You don't have to be dressed to give the dog the first and last out, and you can go out barefoot to play fetch and know where all the bombs are.
