Roosevelt told the country that he was doing everything to keep America out of the war to "protect our neutrality". At the same time he had US Naval ships escorting both US and British merchant ships that were taking war supplies to Britain. He did everything he could to provoke a confrontation in the Atlantic. He lied when he ran for office saying he would do everything to keep us out of the war because he was trying to come up with a way to get us in. His lies cost countless of American lives. However, I am glad he lied and I am glad he did what he did. Although I don't think Bush lied, I am glad he took us to war against Iraq.
