Just remember how much you despised the big partner once you become the big partner.
so much of it comes from a fear of asking the client what he means by "need it soon." "Is next Wednesday okay?" is a question that would make everyone's life easier, and of course there's no way the client looks at it before then anyway.
I was on the limited IP issues of a transaction that was to close the week after Thanksgiving. the other side was Jones or sidley or one of them. The week of Thanksgiving I start getting calls from Joe Smith "the Senior legal assistant" on the deal. the guy was in Chicago- 1 hour earlier than us. When I came into my office on Friday I had changes from the guy sent to me at 9:45 PM the night before Thanksgiving. I asked him WTF he was doing there that late- did he think anyone would be worse off if he had left early and did the work Friday morning. He said he had no choice due to asshole partner. I wanted to bring my copies in with gravy stains so he could at least think there was some reason for staying late.
I know that is probably nothing to those of you in transactions but the false alarm shit like that would drive me batty.
