No, the bowler hats are a style choice by the native Aymaran women. The native Quechuan women also wear hats, but not bowlers. There are conflicting stories about how the style started, but it is commonly attributed to being adapted from English businessmen who came here near the beginning of the century. The hat is tipped to one side if the woman is single, and perched square if they are married -
