I wasn't quibbling with your advice, but now that we're on the subject, would this really help? The worst part of infidelity is probably the blow to the other's ego. Would paying someone to stroke it for you actually soothe it? Or be such a blow to the cheating spouse?

I don't know, but the only thing that made me forget a relationship was sex with someone else. I didn't utilize hookers, so I had to wait a few weeks/months or so to meet someone else, but once I had sex with someone else, the previous relationship was obliterated. I think it works that way for most people. This poor cat has to obliterate his wife's memory if he intends to move on, which I concur he should do. Suggesting hookers is obviously a joke, but frankly, he needs something to at least temporarily eliminate his wife from the database asap.
Of course, I never did this in the context of marriage, and I don't think I loved anyone until my wife (generally, I just played "relationship" for sex because that was what I understood the trade off to be), so my experience might be for shit.
ETA: To be brutally honest, the very worst thing about the loss of a relationship is that first night where you realize you're not getting laid unless you go out and work for it. That is terrific pain.
