If I take the money out, it's going into an account of which she is fully aware but doesn't have access to. If she takes it out, no guarantees. She could blow it on a vacation with Bill, or whatever. I'm not so concerned with our long term investments - while they are joint property, they're under my control. And mostly in the form of untouchable retirement accounts. But wiping out our collective cash reserves would make life difficult as I set up a new household and arrange for childcare, etc.
