Of course, my neighborhood is maybe not the first place one would want to go in the event of a terrorist attack, since I live less than a block from the "Al-Kaeeda Bookstore and Religious Center" and about 2 blocks from the mosque the '93 WTC bombers attended.

When I lived around there I took comfort in the fact that it would likely be the last place in NYC to be (intentionally) blown up by an Al-Qaeda sleeper cell. Where would they buy a cup of coffee?
Oh, and in the event of a real zombie attack/alien invasion/dirty bomb, you will be on foot with 8 million other people and your chances of getting to the mainland from Brooklyn will be nil, even assuming you can walk over the Brooklyn Bridge a la 9/11 in the first place. If you head east you can stay off the main roads and drink slurpees at abandoned 7-11s all the way out to Riverhead, where the outlet stores are.
