As a general rule, I think this is about right. That said, the Mr. and I were long distance for nearly 3 years. On the other hand, he was theoretically still had a long distance girlfriend when we first got together. And we were engaged during most of the 3 years, which is different than just dating.
So I don't really have anything useful to add to this. Except that, if you replace "one month" with "three or four months" in MR's little scene, you've kind of forgotten what he actually looks like and can pretend you're picking up a total stranger at the airport for a long weekend of rough sex, which has its charms.
