You'd be surprised how fast you pick it up again. When I started (after a 10 years hiatus) I was struggling to do 1000M in the 45 minutes. Now I'm up to 2000-2200 in 45 minutes.
I'm starting to get some speed back, too. We are swimming outdoor longcourse right now and today we did a sprint set. I was holding my 50s at 35-38 secs.
