What makes it more absurd is that this is part of the standard battery of advice doctors give. A couple of years ago my doctor told me to lose some weight based on my having a BMI of about 29, classified as obese. A lay person looking at me then would never have thought to call me fat, so it was a bit of a shock to be called not just overweight but obese. I didn't take offense. I lost the weight (current BMI less than 24. Yay!).

Couldn't he have qualified it with "You need to lose weight
only if you want to be able to reach to wipe your butt."
