A really low-impact thing to do is to go to your local humane society this weekend and adopt a pet. There is a large group of humane societies that are travelling to the gulf coast to transport abandonned animals out of the area, and those humane societies are going to need room in their facilities for all the new arrivals. Adopt a kitten. Name her Katrina. And feel good about it.
