Come on. Both sides know this, and the numbers are a fiction designed by agents to look good and players to show they are respected. Two things matter in an NFL contract. The signing bonus and the first 2-3 years of the contract. The last couple of years are always huge numbers thrown in for show. The restructuring is almost always over those last couple of years, which are 50-100% higher than the rest of the contract. So everyone knows it's fiction, and the restructuring is to get it back to where it should be.

So what? The point is, when a player whose contract is not "where it should be" because they have
outperformed the team's expectations holds out to get what they deserve, the team, fans (and ESPN, as not Bob pointed out) pull that "be a man and stick by your agreement" bullshit.
