ETA: Oh, I get it now. You're just pissed at being an associate. If you bill loads of hours the partners pay you the same thing anyway, with maybe a token bonus. If you bill shite, you get canned.

Welcome to life.
Oh, I get it now. You like using analogies that don't apply to try to make your point.

I don't have a contract with my firm. I knew this before we started this conversation. Can you post the salary cap information in the lawyer's league you play in?

If a player signs a contract, gets his guaranteed bonus and one year's salary and then injures himself, he gets cut. If he signs a contract that is heavier on the back end because they want to sign another player now and he gives to make room under the salary cap, the team can cut him later on or force him to renegotiate if they don't feel like keeping their end of the deal. If a player signs a best-case-scenario contract and performs exactly the way the team expects and the market changes for players in his position after the first year, his contract is worthless.

If a player signs a long term contract that isn't worth much and far exceeds the team's expectations, he's supposed to honor the contract? That's some bullshit. And the teams screaming and yelling about players honoring their contracts is a steaming pile of bullshit. But it must be magical because you seem to think it tastes great.
