Bottom line.
They go to the head-to-head tiebreaker if BOTH teams are assured of a playoff.
Cleveland losing today means that the best record they can achieve is ONE Game behind the Yankees and Sox (assuming the Sox beat the Yankees tomorrow - and they wont).
Since both teams would then be assured of a playoff spot (in this scenario) the Yanks win the division via tiebreaker.
Ergo, they clinched.
Had Cleveland won today, they still would have had a chance to end the season in a 3 way tie.
PS - F Barry Bonds. 35K showed up today at PacBell to watch a meaningless game - great weather BTW - and this gimp decided to sit it out. The estimation in the seats was that he was paid close to 1.75 million a game this year.
