Actually, most of them are high school drop-out (or skated by because they were baseball stars) southern good ole boys. Dave Winfield famously once told one of his NFL friends how lucky the friend was to be on a team where everyone had gone to college. He said something like "being on a baseball team is the loneliest thing you can imagine."
I'm sure Dave was right. I've always wanted to be a pro baseball player, but I don't think they're coming up with a cure for bovine spongeform encephalitis down in the dugout.
