If anyone else is interested, I can start a separate thread for support through the process. You have a little less than a month to think about it. Everyone I know who did it last year felt that they accomplished something, even if that something was crap on the first go round. Apparently a few novels have been published that started in NaNoWriMo.

Chapter One
Rene grasped the thrashing golden retreiver by the snout. The beast would not succumb without a battle, that was certain. With his other hand, Rene quickly forced the chloroform-soaked handkerchief to the dog's face. After a few seconds of clawing, peace - the animal crumbled into slumber. After he wiped the sweat from his brow with his beret, Rene pulled a thick foie gras slathered baguet from his supplies and stared into the glassy sea. This was no day for whites - tigers, maybe, if anything. Perhaps he'd even have to settle for hammerheads, Rene thought, as he stepped over the golden and made his way to the basket of chihuahuas and shi-tzus...
