True for the engagement parties. Even better if the parents are divorced. There's a sort of oneupsmanship that takes place that ends up being real fun for the guests. The last engagement party I went to was a battle between mom who wanted the party at a museum with the best caterer in town or dad who wanted it in the best restaurant in town. Mom won that one, but dad only conceded if he could sponsor the rehearsal dinner at the best restaurant in town. THAT was a party.
