It implies a certain monolithic group characteristic that allows you (us?) to NOT think about the group at all beyond that characteristic. It marginalizes them into pre-packaged bites. I think you'd find many more poets in that group these days than warriors, but the stereotype keeps you from ever discovering that, 'cuz you already know what you need to know, right?
