I doubt you would spend much time in the places where you'd run into something like that, though. I'm quite sure there are spots like that in PA as well.
If I moved there, I would live in Scottsdale. Scottsdale isn't too bad, although when I was there last, there was some local election going on and they had those yard signs up advertising themselves, you know? And each sign said something like, "Conservative for State Senate," "Super-ultra Conservative for State Senate," "The Conservativist Conservative for State Senate," or "I'm much more Conservative than all these other wannabe Conservatives for State Senate." I don't think Democrats are even allowed to visit for more than a couple of weeks. But your life is never in danger in Scottsdale.
We actually went out to some clubs (surprising club scene in Scottsdale) when we were there last and, it's all hip hop, of course (not that that says anything about how progressive someplace is anymore).
