I wonder if there's any sort of record of how often the BOB's (Sorry -- Chase Field's -- Jesus Christ.) roof has been opened vs. closed since the ballpark opened. I'd have to imagine it would be closed most of the time simply because, well, it's fucking hot there, dude.
(But maybe there are more people out there like Thurgreed, who love the hot weather, than ass-burners like Paigow. I don't know.)

Apparently, the roof is closed most of the time. The big thing in having a retractable roof instead of fixed is being able to have grass instead of turf. Nobody wants an astroturf field anymore.
I also forgot about the retractable roof in Seattle.
