The crazy thing is, the book made a lot of sense. If you create a "brand" of yourself," and foster the image of comptence and cool ability to handle pressure, you can phone in your job all the time and get away with it.
I now realize that what I thought was mere lying was actually subconscious brilliance. My survival instincts and innate drive to leech as much money as I can in a given situation were creating a "brand."
