Though given a choice between a musical and opera, I'd go with the opera almost every time (there are some ghastly operas). And I believe tmdiva would as well. See -- either she's the MO Fugee or I'm the Presbyterian tmdiva.
Have fun at the opera tonight GWNC -- I'm jealous.

Yup. I love them both, but will usually opt for the opera (and that's the thing about Rent--it's the same story as La Boheme). My last year in NYC, I went to the Met 10 times, and probably only saw a couple Bway shows (can't remember for sure). Last time I was in NYC, the Met was done for the season, so I saw Avenue Q (loved it) and The Boy from Oz (loved Hugh Jackman, just meh on the show as a whole).
Gwink, how old is the production of Cosi you'll be seeing tonight? One of the 10 Met productions I saw that year was a new one of Cosi, with a pretty minimalist set (for some reason I'm thinking shutters were quite prominent). The singers were some of my favorites: Carol Vaness and Suzanne Mentzer and Dwayne Croft. Can't remember the other guy at the moment. Who's singing tonight?
That reminds me--I should get out my Cosi score and start working on duets to do with my sister over Christmas. We'll make a fabulous Fiordiligi and Dorabella. The Messiah I don't need to work on much--after a singalong every year for the last 20-plus years (missed last year because of morning sickness), I practically have the thing memorized.
