The funny thing is, if you tell someone the two names you have picked out (for a boy or a girl)
before they are born, it's okay to say they think the name is shit. But no one would dare say anything like that
after the baby is born. I guess because
then it's inconsiderate and rude?
Another thing you will avoid by refusing to tell people name choices is the inevitable, "Don't name your child _________ because
I associate that name with somebody who is horrible in my office/college/church/whatever." It's not funny. These people are serious.
The only times it is appropriate to make fun of names are (1) before the soon-to-be-mom is actually pregnant, (2) to someone's face about their own name and (3) anytime, behind their or their parents' backs.
