Another thing you will avoid by refusing to tell people name choices is the inevitable, "Don't name your child _________ because I associate that name with somebody who is horrible in my office/college/church/whatever." It's not funny. These people are serious.

The only times it is appropriate to make fun of names are (1) before the soon-to-be-mom is actually pregnant, (2) to someone's face about their own name and (3) anytime, behind their or their parents' backs.

I went to basketball camp with a kid named Adolph. The first day, the counselor called out "Uh, Adolph? You're not serious, are you?" I sooo wanted to see what that kid's folks looked like. That had to be some fucked up family right there...
